Gold Cup Pre-Season: Lobi Stars Cruise Past Crown FC

Lobi Stars began their campaign at the 13th Gold Cup Pre-Season Tournament in fine fashion with a convincing 3–0 win over Crown FC at the FC Ebedei Stadium in Sagamu, Ogun State.

Head coach Abubakar Bala’s tactical setup proved effective as the Makurdi-based side dominated possession and created several scoring chances in the early stages. The pressure eventually paid off when Suur Kumaga converted from the penalty spot in the 36th minute after a Crown FC defender handled the ball inside the box.

Just before the interval, Abdulazeez Tijani doubled Lobi Stars’ advantage with a clinical finish, assisted by Daniel Edeh, to give the team a comfortable 2–0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Pride of Benue maintained their control, nullifying Crown FC’s attacking efforts. Coach Bala’s decision to introduce youngster Emmanuel Ofem late in the game added further spark to the attack, and the substitute made an immediate impact by scoring a fine goal in stoppage time after dribbling past two defenders.

Speaking after the match, Coach Bala expressed satisfaction with his team’s display. “I am proud of my boys. They put in a commanding performance that made the difference. We are not carried away with the result but remain focused; we are still in a building process,” he said.

Lobi Stars will look to build on this strong start as they continue their quest for the Gold Cup title.
