CAF has suspended Al Hilal forward Jean Claude Girumugisha for three matches after last Friday’s heated CAF Champions League clash against MC Alger in Kigali.
Girumugisha, who wears the club’s famous No.7 shirt, has also been fined 5,000 dollars for unsportsmanlike conduct. He will now miss key fixtures against St Eloi Lupopo and back-to-back encounters with Mamelodi Sundowns, a run that could significantly affect Al Hilal’s campaign.
CAF’s Disciplinary Committee confirmed that contrary to early reports, there was no incident of Girumugisha throwing a water bottle towards the MC Alger bench. The punishment was issued solely for actions deemed unsporting during and after the match.
The decision followed official reports submitted by the match commissioner and referee. A CAF source told WinWin that the player had been cited for provoking riots after the final whistle and making gestures towards the MC Alger technical bench.
The suspension represents a major setback for Al Hilal at a critical stage of their continental pursuit, raising questions about how the Sudanese side will cope without their most influential attacker.
