Nasarawa Amazons began their 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership campaign with a spirited 2-1 comeback win over Delta Queens on Wednesday in Lafia.
The visitors made a strong start and took the lead in the 14th minute through a well-taken free kick just outside the box. Delta Queens continued to control the opening half with sustained pressure and disciplined defending.
Nasarawa Amazons grew into the game and were rewarded in the 40th minute when Jones Imoh released a long-range effort that forced a defensive mix-up, allowing Shobowale to level the score. Five minutes later, the home side completed the turnaround as Ayatsea Hembafan beat her marker with a smart dribble before firing home the winner.
The Amazons held firm in the second half to secure all three points.
Speaking after the match, Nasarawa Amazons head coach Christopher Danjuma praised the win but stressed the need for improvement. He said the team must blend better and sharpen their attacking play ahead of two away fixtures. He added that he expects nothing less than four points from those matches, noting that Delta Queens were stronger than their preseason meeting suggested.
Delta Queens coach Keshi Samson admitted his side were second best and highlighted the need to address their weaknesses as the season progresses.
Nasarawa Amazons will travel to Lagos for Match Day 2, where they face Dannaz Ladies.
