Ikorodu City Rise to the Summit After Hard-Fought Victory

Ikorodu City moved to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League standings following a 2-1 win over Plateau United on Sunday.

The Oga Boys entered the matchweek as the league’s most in-form side after seven games without defeat and an impressive run of 515 minutes without conceding. Their momentum showed once again as Joseph Arumala opened the scoring with a firm header from Folarin Temitope’s free kick delivery two minutes into the second half.

The goal energised Ikorodu City and substitute Alade Balogun doubled the advantage six minutes later. He capitalised on a defensive error to register his first goal of the season for the club.

Ikorodu City’s clean sheet streak came to an end when Wisdom Ndon headed in from Tarabina Biweribo’s long throw. The goal halted goalkeeper Michael Atata’s remarkable run of 587 minutes without conceding.

Despite the late setback, the victory carried Ikorodu City to the top of the table. They now sit above Nasarawa United, who slipped to second on goal difference, with both sides level on 24 points.
