Kada Warriors claimed their first home win of the Nigerian National League season with a 1–0 triumph over Lobi Stars at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on Saturday.
The decisive moment arrived in the 42nd minute when Abdulsalam Abdulsalam rose above the Lobi defence to head in a well-delivered corner from Yusuf Musa. The goal capped an intense first half in which both sides created opportunities but lacked the final touch.
Lobi Stars threatened early in the match, with junior international Suur Kumaga twice going close after Ajibola Mathew kicked off proceedings at 3pm. The visitors continued to push forward, but Kada gradually seized control and forced Lobi into sustained defensive work.
The hosts maintained their momentum and came close to doubling their advantage before the break, though Lobi goalkeeper George Michael made crucial interventions to keep his side in contention.
Lobi Stars returned for the second half with renewed intent, as Coach Bala Mohammed introduced Emmanuel Ofem and Peter Onah to strengthen the midfield. Their brightest moment came in the 64th minute when Mathew found the net, but the effort was ruled out for excessive force in his challenge with the last Kada defender.
Further substitutions, including the introduction of Barnabas Imenger Jnr in the 82nd minute, added urgency to Lobi’s attack. The late push nearly produced an equaliser when Imenger was fouled and Ofem’s powerful strike from the resulting free kick was blocked by Kada’s organised back line.
Kada Warriors, beaten 1–0 at Doma United on opening day, showed discipline in the closing stages and protected their lead with composure as Lobi pressed for a leveller.
After the match, Lobi Stars coach Bala Mohammed expressed frustration at his team’s finishing. He said his side created enough chances to earn a result but failed to convert at key moments.
Kada Warriors will look to build on this important victory, while Lobi Stars return home to prepare for a North Central derby against Mighty Jets at the Lafia City Stadium.
