The Nigeria National League has taken decisive action against referee Victor Nyah after his contentious penalty call during the match between Rovers FC of Calabar and Ekiti United at the UJ Esuene Stadium.
In a letter issued by the NFF Refereeing Development Committee and signed by its Secretary, Mohammed Ameenu, Nyah has been indefinitely stepped down from all league and related officiating duties. The communication, sent through the Akwa Ibom State FA and copied to the NFF President, the General Secretary and the NNL Chairman, criticised the referee’s decision as inconsistent with the Laws of the Game.
The Committee stated that its investigation confirmed the award of an unjustified penalty, which not only influenced the final outcome of the fixture but also brought the sport into disrepute.
The statement concluded that Nyah is to remain off all matches until further notice.
