FIFA-licensed agent Eddie Iseri Ogbemudia has raised serious concerns after Dakkada FC abruptly withdrew from the 2025/2026 Nigeria National League season.
The club pulled out when the NNL Board refused their request to compete in Conference B alongside Akwa United, a fellow Akwa Ibom side owned by the same organisation. League officials rejected the request on integrity grounds, insisting that clubs cannot choose their conference placement.
A senior NNL executive told Sports247 that the decision was taken to protect the competition’s credibility. The official stressed that Dakkada’s refusal to accept the ruling led directly to their withdrawal.
Ogbemudia expressed disbelief that the club’s decision was linked to conference placement, insisting that it was not a reasonable basis to exit the league. He urged Dakkada’s management to reconsider, warning that the consequences could be severe.
According to him, the club risks facing a long-term suspension from future league activities. He also highlighted concerns for players and staff who were already in camp preparing for the new season. With the transfer window closed, many may be unable to join new clubs immediately, potentially derailing their careers.
Ogbemudia added that Dakkada remain legally responsible for honouring all existing player and staff contracts. Any failure to meet financial obligations could result in cases being filed before the NFF Players Status and Arbitration Committee.
Formerly known as Akwa Comets and once a feeder team to Akwa United, Dakkada were promoted to the NPFL in 2016 after their rebranding. They remained in the top division until their relegation after the 2021/2022 season.
Before withdrawing, the team was scheduled to open their campaign with an away fixture against Beyond Limit FA in Ikenne.
The NNL Board is expected to release an official statement soon, outlining potential sanctions and changes to the league schedule. The 2025/2026 season commenced last weekend in Lafia with Basira FC facing Mighty Jets, while the rest of the opening fixtures are set for this weekend.
