Coach Bassey Quits Ranchers Bees Over Security and Welfare Concerns

Kaduna-based Ranchers Bees Football Club has been dealt a blow as Head Coach Patrick Bassey has resigned with immediate effect, citing serious security risks, poor welfare provisions, and interference from the club’s management.

In a resignation letter dated 2nd December 2025 and addressed to the club chairman, Bassey expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the team, which currently sits second in the league after three matches. However, he described the working conditions as unprofessional and intolerable, posing threats to both his safety and the club’s promotion ambitions.

The coach raised alarm over the management’s repeated instructions for the team to undertake night travels after away fixtures and from their new home ground in Minna, Niger State, calling this a dangerous and unacceptable practice. Bassey also alleged that threats to his life have come from some supporters before and after matches, with claims that management has at times instigated supporters to harass him.

Welfare issues were another major concern. Bassey highlighted the absence of a team camp, which hinders effective player monitoring, and the lack of essential equipment such as football boots. He criticised the poor feeding arrangements, noting the team often relies on pre-packaged meals during league preparations. He also revealed that promised benefits like mobility for himself were never honoured. During a league game in Kebbi, he pointed out a discriminatory act where players received ₦10,000 each for feeding while he was given only ₦5,000, a practice he called unprofessional.

Further, Bassey lamented persistent interference by management in technical decisions. He said he was frequently interrupted during team talks and substitution plans, making it impossible to maintain a smooth coaching routine and negatively impacting team morale.

Despite his respect for the club’s supporters, the hostile environment and administrative challenges led Bassey to conclude that continuing was impossible.

His resignation is expected to provoke significant discussion within Kaduna’s football circles. Ranchers Bees management has not yet responded officially to the news.
