DR Congo’s AS Maniema kept their flawless defensive record intact as they secured a 1-0 victory against debutants Nairobi United in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup at Kasarani Stadium.
The decisive moment came in the 67th minute when Jaency Mboma Kinda expertly turned in a low cross from Chadoma Ozome at the near post. It was a rare clear chance in an otherwise cautious encounter.
Maniema gained greater control after half-time, sparked by a double substitution that introduced Obed Mbala and Sylva Tshitenge to strengthen midfield and the right flank. Nairobi United responded with three changes soon after the goal but struggled to break down the disciplined Congolese defence.
Nairobi’s best efforts arrived late in the match, but frustration was evident when Kevin Otiende received a booking on 71 minutes as Maniema slowed the tempo to protect their lead. Mboma Kinda also received a caution before Maniema comfortably saw out the final minutes.
The win elevates Maniema to six points from two games, level on points with group leaders Wydad AC but second on goal difference. Nairobi United remain at the bottom of Group B, yet to earn a point or score a goal. Azam sit third in the standings.
