Kaizer Chiefs defender Dillan Solomons is determined to build on his recent return from injury as the Glamour Boys prepare to face Chippa United in a vital Betway Premiership fixture.
Solomons has made notable contributions in Chiefs’ ongoing CAF Confederation Cup campaign. His goal against Al Masry nearly earned a point before a late winner denied them. In their subsequent match against Zamalek, he supplied the cross that led to an own goal, securing a dramatic 1-1 draw.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha, the 29-year-old expressed confidence and focus. “I’m looking forward to the Chippa game. Coming off a fair result in the CAF Confederation Cup, we want to refocus on the league. We know what type of team Chippa is and it won’t be an easy game away from home but our intention is to pick up maximum points by making sure we execute what we have to do,” he said.
With limited preparation time due to a tight schedule, Solomons emphasised the importance of sticking to their game plan. Chiefs have found their continental outings challenging, earning just one point from two matches, but Solomons believes the experience is invaluable. “The CAF games have been a learning experience as we have a number of players getting their first taste of continental football. It has been tough but we’ll take the results and move on with the determination to improve when the competition resumes next year.”
The defender, who hails from Steenberg, admitted the long injury layoff was difficult but rewarding now that he is back on the pitch. “Being out injured was not a good time for me, but I am so happy to be involved now and to help contribute to the team. Scoring a goal was wonderful but I like getting assists, which I take pride in more. I really want to contribute even more, hopefully in the next two games before the break for the AFCON tournament.”
