Uganda striker Uche Ikpeazu has revealed he will be supporting Nigeria to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following the Cranes’ 3-1 defeat to the Super Eagles.
Ikpeazu, who has Nigerian and Ugandan heritage, featured for Uganda as they were eliminated by Nigeria in Tuesday’s Group C encounter in Morocco.
The 30-year-old St. Johnstone forward had spoken openly before the match about the emotional weight of facing Nigeria, apologising to his father while maintaining his desire to lead Uganda to victory.
That ambition, however, fell short as Nigeria’s quality proved decisive, sending the Cranes out of the tournament.
Speaking after the game, Ikpeazu admitted he would now be backing the Super Eagles to go all the way.
“I will be supporting Nigeria to lift the AFCON. Uganda is a great national team, much respect to them,” he said.
“The quality showed, and I think at times some of the goals we conceded were mistakes, but it is a learning curve.
“We are a very young group. We will learn, and we can do better. I tried my best, and that is the most important thing.”
