Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has credited Nigeria’s strong team spirit for his impressive performances at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025.
The 29-year-old has been a key figure in Nigeria’s midfield, creating numerous goal-scoring opportunities and earning the admiration of fans with his composed and intelligent play.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s semi-final clash against hosts Morocco, Iwobi said the bond between players has allowed him to express himself freely on the pitch.
“For me, the difference is the feeling of brotherhood and family we built together,” he explained.
Iwobi acknowledged the team’s potential in previous AFCON tournaments but noted that Nigeria is now stronger and more experienced.
“In previous tournaments, we were young and still getting to know each other. Now everyone is in their prime and performing well for their clubs. You can see the joy and chemistry when we play for our country,” he said.
He added that the unity extends beyond the pitch, with the coaching staff fostering a family atmosphere that brings out the best in the players.
“It starts with the coach and the players. He has created a brotherhood, and you see it on the pitch because we fight for each other. That brings out the best in all of us,” Iwobi said.
The Super Eagles will face Morocco in the AFCON semi-final on Wednesday, aiming to secure their place in the final.
