Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has explained why the Africa Cup of Nations remains a tournament he will always watch, citing the quality, skill and legacy of African football.
Henry’s comments followed the conclusion of the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, where Senegal edged the host nation 1-0 to lift the continental title.
Speaking on CBS Sports Golazo, the former France international said AFCON consistently delivers impressive teams and individual brilliance that set it apart from other international competitions.
According to Henry, the tournament has long been a showcase of exceptional talent, both past and present, which continues to influence the global game.
He also paid tribute to iconic African players who successfully transitioned to European football and left a lasting impact.
“I can also mention the guys that came to play in Europe. Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o, Jay-Jay Okocha,” Henry said.
The former Barcelona and Arsenal forward stressed that his admiration for the competition has not faded with time, adding that AFCON remains a must-watch event for him.
“AFCON was always a tournament I enjoyed watching because you could see skills and great teams. I also watched this competition. I will always watch it,” Henry added.
