Mozambique’s national football team has been promised a significant financial reward ahead of their Round of 16 match against Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
President Daniel Francisco Chapo has approved a special bonus of 500,000 meticais, roughly ₦11.3 million, for each player and member of the coaching staff if the Mambas defeat Nigeria and reach the quarter-finals.
The Mozambican leader made the announcement while praising the team for their impressive performance, which saw them advance to the knockout stage for the first time after finishing third in Group F. Mozambique secured their place despite a 2-1 defeat to Cameroon in their final group game.
In a message to the players and coaching staff, President Chapo called their qualification a remarkable achievement that has made the entire nation proud. He commended their courage, dedication, and resilience throughout the group stage.
According to local media outlet Jornal Notícias, the incentive aims to motivate the squad ahead of their crucial encounter with Nigeria as Mozambique chase a historic quarter-final berth.
