The second round of the Nigeria Premier Football League resumes this midweek, with Kwara United set to host Bendel Insurance at the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl of the George Innih Stadium, Ilorin, in a Matchday 20 fixture.
Kwara United head coach, Ashifat Suleiman, has expressed strong confidence in his side’s readiness as the Harmony Boys look to respond to their Matchday 19 setback in Benin, where they suffered a two-goal defeat in the first half.
Speaking after Monday’s training session, Suleiman said his players have reacted positively to recent tactical drills, boosting his belief ahead of Wednesday’s encounter.
“My boys have responded positively to tactical instructions during our training sessions, and that gives us enough assurance going into the game,” the coach told the Kwara United media.
“Our target for this month is not to drop points against our opponents, and we will build on that as the league progresses.”
As part of preparations for the second stanza of the season, Kwara United are expected to finalise new signings to strengthen the squad, while some players have departed the club by mutual consent.
The Ilorin-based side have also received a fitness boost, with Adeshina Gata and Aliyu Salaudeen fully fit and available for selection. However, Ini Emmanuel and Ibrahim Yahaya remain unavailable as they continue their recovery.
Former Kano Pillars winger, Mustapha Salisu Musa, is also expected to be unveiled after impressing the technical crew during trials. The winger described his move as a “mission accomplished”, adding that he fits well into Coach Suleiman’s philosophy of creative and attacking football.
Kwara United will welcome Bendel Insurance on Wednesday, with kickoff scheduled for 4:00 pm, as Coach Suleiman aims to lead his team to a strong start in the second round of the NPFL season.
