Ajina targets drought-ending goal as ABS host City FC in NNL clash

Boluwatife Ajina has vowed to end his goal drought when ABS Ilorin FC face City FC Abuja in their Nigeria National League Matchday 10 fixture on Saturday.

The encounter will take place at the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl of the George Innih Stadium, Ilorin, on 28 February 2026, with the Saraki Boys determined to claim maximum points on home soil.

Ajina enjoyed a prolific campaign last season, scoring eight goals and providing three assists for ABS Ilorin FC. However, the forward has struggled for goals this term, registering just one assist in nine appearances despite playing an influential role in the team’s attacking build-up.

Speaking to the club’s media ahead of the fixture, the striker admitted his frustration but stressed that the team’s success remains paramount.

“It’s something that troubles me because every striker wants to score goals. I am working hard to end this drought but what is important is for us to win,” Ajina ABS media.

“I am happy with the group and look forward to helping the team achieve success. I will keep working hard and I know the goals will start coming soon.”

Ajina described Saturday’s match as a must-win encounter for the Ilorin-based side as they look to strengthen their position in the league standings.

“Every game for us is a must win and tomorrow’s game isn’t different. I am confident, the boys are in shape and ready for tomorrow and I am sure we will get the needed victory.”

ABS will also be seeking redemption after a 2-1 defeat in the reverse fixture in Abuja. The Saraki Boys are yet to record a win over City FC in their previous three meetings, having lost twice and drawn once. The draw came the last time both teams met in Ilorin on 4 June 2022.
