The Nigeria National League has sanctioned Kebbi United and Firstbank FC for breaching its regulations during their most recent fixtures in the 2025 to 2026 season.
Following investigations by its Disciplinary Committee, the league found both clubs guilty of violating relevant provisions of its rules.
Kebbi United have been deducted three points and three goals for fielding an ineligible player, Dawud Ibrahim, in their match against Yobe Desert Stars of Damaturu. The club has also been fined one million naira.
The league condemned the conduct of the match commissioner in the same fixture, Buhari Yahaya, describing his actions as unprofessional.
NNL Chief Operating Officer, Mr Danlami Alanana, criticised the failure to report the use of an unlicensed player.
“We frown at situations where the match official does not report incidents featuring an unlicensed player, which provokes the eligibility clause,” Alanana said.
Firstbank FC were also fined one million naira over supporters’ misconduct, including invading the dressing room and intimidating match officials. The club has been ordered to produce the four individuals involved or risk further sanctions.
The NNL further warned Firstbank and the Lagos State Football Association to ensure adequate security at all times.
Both clubs have the option of accepting the sanctions or lodging an appeal with the Nigeria Football Federation.
