The Nigeria National League has approved the McCarthy Stadium in Makurdi as the new home ground of Lobi Stars for their remaining home fixtures this season.
The approval followed recent inspections by league officials, who confirmed that the stadium facilities now meet the minimum requirements set by the NNL.
McCarthy Stadium, a 5,000-capacity venue located in the Wadata area of Makurdi, was previously rejected at the start of the season due to the absence of basic facilities.
Chief Operating Officer of the league, Mr Danlami Alanana, explained that improvements made to the facility informed the decision.
“For now we are impressed with the upgrade. We visited and have seen what they have. Recall the same venue was chosen for the opening match of the season but we disapproved of it because of their failure to put basic facilities in place. What they have now is better,” Alanana said.
He, however, warned that the approval remains provisional and could be withdrawn if standards are not maintained. The NNL will continue to monitor the facilities.
Lobi Stars had adopted the Lafia City Stadium in Nasarawa as their temporary home ground. The club will now relocate to Makurdi starting from 14 February 2026, when the second stanza of the league begins.
Their first home match at the newly approved venue will be against Doma United of Gombe.
