Head coach of Akwa United, Paul Offor, has admitted his side endured a disappointing outing following their 3–1 defeat to Stormers SC on matchday 11 of the Nigeria National League.
The encounter at the M. K. O. Abiola Stadium brought an end to Akwa United’s five-game unbeaten run. The Promise Keepers conceded twice in quick succession in the first half before allowing a third after the restart. Striker Michael Okenwa scored a late consolation, but the hosts secured all three points.
Offor conceded that lapses in concentration proved decisive.
“I must admit that we had a bad outing in today’s match. The boys switched off at crucial moments and that contributed to the goals we conceded. This is the first time we have conceded this number of goals in a single match and it’s painful because we are at the business end of the league,” he said.
He also pointed to his side’s lack of cutting edge in front of goal.
“Despite conceding three goals, we also had our chances but we were not clinical enough and only managed to score one. We have to take the positives and will certainly work to ensure we bounce back to winning ways as quickly as possible.
“The task at hand is to put this defeat behind us and do our best to encourage and motivate the boys to focus on the remaining matches and work towards achieving our objective at the end of the season.”
Despite the defeat in Abeokuta, Akwa United remain top of Conference B with 22 points, one ahead of Sporting Lagos, who drew 1–1 with Godswill Akpabio United.
Akwa United have recorded seven wins, one draw and three defeats in 11 matches. With seven games remaining, they will return to the Uyo Township Stadium to host First Bank on Sunday, 1 March 2026.
