The first phase of the Confederation of African Football School Development Programme has concluded in Lagos State, with Badagry Grammar School emerging as the final beneficiary.
The initiative, supported by the Confederation of African Football and implemented through the Nigeria Football Federation, is designed to promote grassroots football among students and provide essential equipment to support their development.
Officials of the Lagos State Football Association visited Badagry Grammar School to mark the conclusion of the programme. The delegation was led by LSFA Assistant Secretary Kayode Okunoye and included Steven Degboe, leader of the Badagry Coaches Council, and Abel Sohe, Director of Programmes for the Badagry Divisional Football Association.
The school management and students welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the support provided through the programme.
Games Master Oguntade Charles thanked CAF, the NFF and the LSFA for selecting the school as one of the beneficiaries. He said the institution remains committed to combining academic education with sports development while nurturing students’ talents.
Students also expressed excitement after receiving footballs that will support the school’s football activities.
Senior Principal Mrs Ojora Adebimpe Adedayo described the donation as a significant boost for the school’s sports programme.
“We are delighted to receive this generous donation of footballs from the Confederation of African Football through the Nigeria Football Federation and the Lagos State Football Association,” she said.
“This initiative will uplift our students’ spirits and improve our football development programme. We are grateful for the contributions of CAF, NFF and LSFA in advancing football development in Lagos State and we look forward to continued collaboration to nurture our students’ talents.”
Badagry Grammar School has produced several notable alumni who have excelled in different fields. They include Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and Hon Bonu Solomon Sannu, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Badagry Constituency 1.
Other prominent former students include Alhaja Salmot Badru, former Deputy Governor of Ogun State, and Chief Engineer Toyin Adeyinka, Group Chairman of Spark Light Nig Ltd.
The CAF School Development Programme aims to provide young students with opportunities to develop their football skills while strengthening collaboration between schools and football associations.
The Lagos phase of the programme also benefited Igbobi College and Epe Grammar School before concluding with the visit to Badagry Grammar School.
