Confluence Queens Snatch Late Winner to Beat Abia Angels in Aba

Abia Angels FC suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Confluence Queens FC in a tightly contested Nigeria Women Football League Premiership clash at the Enyimba FC Stadium in Aba.

The visitors from Lokoja opened the scoring in the 5th minute following an unfortunate own goal by Onyedikachi Ekezie. The defender’s back pass beat her own goalkeeper to give Confluence Queens an early advantage.

Abia Angels responded after the break and found the equaliser through Hannah Yusuf. The forward produced a superb free kick from 25 yards that flew past Confluence Queens goalkeeper Ngozi Dikeogu.

Just when the match looked set to end in a draw, Confluence Queens struck deep into stoppage time. In the 90+5 minute, Vincentia Ezeani launched a long kick that was misjudged by Abia Angels goalkeeper Inyiama Chikamso, allowing Sameer Emmanuel to score the decisive goal.

The defeat leaves Abia Angels searching for a response as they continue their push for a playoff place. They will aim to bounce back when they host Remo Stars Ladies in their next fixture.
