Wikki Tourists head coach Evans Ogenyi commended his players’ effort despite a 3–2 defeat to Shooting Stars in NPFL26 Matchday 30 on Sunday.
“The boys played well, but the early and late goals were demoralising. We have seen the good and bad sides of the game and we will work on the areas that need improvement before our next game,” Ogenyi said.
The match itself was a thrilling encounter. Shooting Stars opened the scoring through Sadiq in the 17th minute, only for Wikki Tourists to equalise through Abba in the 35th minute. Lucky restored the home side’s lead just before halftime, but John drew Wikki Tourists level in the 53rd minute with a fine finish assisted by Imamu. Al’amin’s 88th-minute header sealed the win for Shooting Stars.
Looking ahead, Ogenyi remained optimistic about the team’s next outing. “Our next game will be better because the players will be stronger after the fasting period.” He also praised the officiating, acknowledging the match officials’ performance.
