Abia Warriors secured a 2-0 home win over Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) in their latest Nigeria Professional Football League clash, leaving the Ibadan side frustrated.
Forward Obioma Chukwuemeka was the hero for the hosts, scoring in the 19th and 54th minutes to seal the victory. His clinical finishing put Abia firmly in control throughout the match.
Speaking after the game, 3SC assistant coach Sakiru Lawal admitted the midfield battle was decisive.
“We believed we could dominate the midfield, but Abia overpowered us, especially in the first half. We tried to adjust with substitutions in the second half, but it was too late to turn the game around,” Lawal told Oyo Sports.
He also reflected on Shooting Stars’ ongoing challenges in the SouthEast, where the team has struggled to pick points.
“This is a place where we expect to perform and at least get a point, so the results are frustrating. We didn’t take our chances and couldn’t get on the score sheet. We must go back, review, and work harder for the next matches.”
Abia Warriors move up the table with the win, while 3SC must regroup quickly as they chase points in upcoming fixtures.
