Niger Tornadoes Technical Adviser Majin Mohammed has admitted his disappointment after his side suffered a 3–0 defeat to Plateau United in a Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday 29 North Central derby at the New Jos Stadium.
Plateau United made a bright start and went ahead in the seventh minute through Vincent Temitope, whose powerful strike from outside the box beat the goalkeeper. Tornadoes players protested for a foul on Abubakar Ibrahim during the build up, but the referee allowed the goal to stand.
The Ikon Allah Boys grew into the match midway through the first half and pushed forward in search of an equaliser. However, Plateau United’s defence remained organised and dealt with the visitors’ attacking efforts.
The hosts doubled their lead after intercepting a Tornadoes move. Isaiah Sunday broke forward on a quick run and calmly finished to make it 2–0 before the break.
Niger Tornadoes introduced Kufre Ebong, Idris Saidu, Bashir Usman and Chima Deruo in the second half in an attempt to change the game. The substitutions did not produce the desired response as Plateau United maintained control.
Nenrot Silas added a late third goal to seal the victory and condemn Tornadoes to their heaviest defeat of the season.
Speaking after the match, Mohammed described the result as disappointing, especially after his side had earlier defeated Plateau United 4–0 earlier in the campaign.
He said the focus has now shifted to their next league fixture at home against Kano Pillars, where Tornadoes will aim to secure maximum points in their fight to move away from the relegation zone.
