Kwara United head coach Ashifat Suleiman has praised his players for their resilience after they secured a crucial 2–1 away victory against Katsina United in Matchday 29 of the Nigeria Premier Football League on Sunday.
The Harmony Boys came from behind at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium to claim all three points and boost their chances of maintaining their top flight status.
Katsina United took the lead in the 20th minute through Nasir Ismail, putting early pressure on the visitors. Kwara United responded five minutes later when Johnmark Aule levelled the score in the 25th minute after tapping in a rebound from a free kick taken at the edge of the box.
The hosts pushed for another goal before the break, but Kwara United’s defence, led by Abutu Jeremiah and Ogbonna Arinze, held firm while goalkeeper Suraj Ayeleso produced key interventions to keep the score level at half time.
Katsina United increased the pressure after the restart, creating chances from different angles, but Ayeleso delivered an outstanding performance with eight saves to keep Kwara United in the contest.
Suleiman’s tactical substitutions later proved decisive. Adeshina Gata, who replaced Abdulsalam Abdulsalam, scored the winning goal in stoppage time to secure victory for the visitors. It was Gata’s first goal of the season.
Other substitutions saw Shola Abdulraheem and Jimoh Gbadamosi introduced for Ini Emmanuel and Salisu Mustapha.
Speaking after the match, Suleiman commended his players for their commitment and determination, stating that the team travelled to Katsina with the clear objective of securing maximum points.
The victory gives Kwara United a significant boost as they continue their battle to retain their Nigeria Premier Football League status.
