Rivers United FC has confirmed that the team contingent was involved in a road traffic accident on Thursday while travelling to Awka, Anambra State, for their President Federation Cup Round of 16 fixture against Nasarawa United.
According to the club, the incident occurred along the Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road on the outskirts of Port Harcourt shortly after the team departed from camp.
The club stated that some players and officials sustained minor injuries, but no fatalities or life-threatening injuries were recorded. Those affected are receiving medical attention and are reported to be in stable condition.
Rivers United added that the health and safety of its players and officials remain the club's top priority, with the medical team closely monitoring the situation.
