President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has confirmed he will attend the upcoming NNL/Prostar/Sportslight Hub Monthly Awards, set for Wednesday, 18 June 2025, in Abuja. The event, which celebrates excellence in Nigeria’s second-tier football league, will now begin at 2:00 p.m., a change from the originally scheduled 11:00 a.m. start.
Currently attending the FIFA Executive Football Summit in Florida, USA, Gusau affirmed his presence through an official statement:
“I would be personally present to witness the awards as a way to show my support for the efforts of the NNL.”
Gusau’s participation is regarded as a major endorsement for the Nigeria National League (NNL) and its ongoing efforts to strengthen domestic football development.
Joining the NFF president will be the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi (MFR), along with a host of other dignitaries. Also confirmed for the ceremony are former Nigerian internationals Sunday Mba—famed for his winning goal at the 2013 AFCON—and Femi Ajilore, a silver medallist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and former Super Eagles midfielder.
The awards, to be held at the Viewpoint Hotel, Wuse Zone 7, Abuja, have steadily gained recognition within Nigeria’s football scene. They serve as a platform to honour standout players, coaches, referees, and teams in the NNL, encouraging professionalism and competitiveness across the league.
Organisers cited logistical considerations for the shift in time, aiming to accommodate the arrival of special guests and ensure wider participation.
The 2025 edition is poised to be one of the most memorable yet, reflecting increased institutional backing and the presence of respected figures in Nigerian football.
