Captain Dominic Hails City FC Persistence After Maren Strike Downs Mighty Jets

City FC Abuja captain Justin Dominic has praised his team’s persistence after they secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Mighty Jets International FC in their Nigeria National League Matchweek 11 clash.

The encounter took place at the FIFA Goal Project Pitch inside the Moshood Abiola Stadium, where Ezra Maren’s second half strike proved decisive for the hosts.

City FC dominated the early stages with an aggressive pressing approach that unsettled the visitors, although they were unable to break the deadlock before the interval.

Innocent Iduh came close to opening the scoring after intercepting a loose ball from Mighty Jets goalkeeper Gobum Rotduwe, but a recovering defender made a crucial tackle to deny him a clear chance.

Oscar Otu also threatened moments later when the left back dribbled past several defenders before sending a low effort narrowly wide of the far post.

The breakthrough eventually arrived after the hour mark when Maren capitalised on a loose ball following a physical tussle between Iduh and the Mighty Jets defence. The attacking midfielder drove towards the edge of the penalty area and fired a powerful strike beyond the goalkeeper.

Captain Dominic said the goal was a result of the team’s relentless approach.

“The goal reflected our persistence. We knew if we kept the pressure high, the opportunity would come,” Dominic said after the match.

City FC maintained their discipline at the back to secure the victory, recording their third consecutive unbeaten league game with two clean sheets in that run.
