Mangut Worried as Nasarawa United’s Poor Start Deepens

Nasarawa United head coach Mangut Mbwas has admitted that the club’s poor start to the 2026/27 Euromatch Nigeria Premier Football League season is a concern after Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat to Kwara United.

The Solid Miners have collected just four points from their opening five matches, with one win, one draw and three defeats.

Mangut acknowledged the team’s position on the table but insisted there were positives to take from the defeat in Ilorin.

“If you look at the log, it’s really something to get worried of. Five games, amounting to fifteen points, and we have four points from those,” Mangut said.

Nasarawa United fell behind to Sanni Mohammed’s 11th-minute goal but responded through Jofrank Joshua before half-time.

Kwara United eventually secured all three points when substitute Abdulsalam Abdulsalam scored in the 65th minute.

Mangut said his side recovered well after conceding early and believes the team can move beyond its current difficulties.

“We have some positives and some negatives to drive from the game. Both sides yearned for the result, we had a great game in the first half, conceded an early goal, but we recovered almost immediately.”

The coach also acknowledged the need to stop dropping points and said the team will work towards stabilising its performances.

“Losing points in every effort put isn’t the best. But, we will work towards it. We will move on from this phase and stabilise the team going forward.”

Nasarawa United will look to respond on Sunday when they host Niger Tornadoes at Lafia City Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 4pm.
