APR FC have pulled back from selling defender Clement Niyigena to Al Hilal, despite an agreement already being reached between the two clubs.
The transfer had reportedly been settled at $80,000, a fee viewed as reasonable with the player having only five months left on his current contract.
However, APR have now refused to complete the move following a sudden change in stance at the top of the club.
Reports indicate that a call was made to the club’s senior leadership, where the proposed transfer was rejected, with APR insisting they have bigger plans for the defender.
Al Hilal had offered Niyigena a significant pay rise, doubling his salary to $6,000, compared to the $3,000 he currently earns at APR. The improved terms were said to have convinced the player to approve the move.
The twist comes just a day after APR head coach publicly confirmed in a press conference, ahead of the club’s match against Mamelodi Sundowns, that the deal was complete.
With the situation now reversed, the transfer remains uncertain and is expected to develop further in the coming days.
