The Nationwide League One (NLO) has announced plans to deploy Artificial Intelligence-powered cameras across match venues from the 2026 season, marking a major step in the digital transformation of Nigerian grassroots football.
The new system, developed in partnership with Zkyte Technologies, will allow matches to be recorded and streamed live without the need for a dedicated camera operator.
According to the NLO, the advanced AI cameras will automatically track the ball and players throughout games, capturing action from multiple angles with high precision. The league says the technology will eliminate blind spots and deliver reliable footage for coaches, analysts, scouts, and clubs.
The initiative is expected to see more than 4,000 matches broadcast live in real time, giving fans and talent spotters immediate access to games across the country.
The NLO believes the move will significantly improve visibility for clubs and players, while also expanding the league’s audience through high-definition streaming.
In addition, the league revealed that an AI Writing Assistant will be introduced to support media teams in producing match reports, press releases, captions, and other content more efficiently.
Another key feature of the project is the NLO Digital Player Assessment System, which will provide standardised evaluations for every registered player.
The league said the platform will offer verified performance-based metrics covering physical attributes, technical ability, match output, and development potential, all stored in a permanent digital player profile.
The NLO described the innovation as a breakthrough for transparency in Nigerian grassroots football, ensuring talent identification is based on accurate data rather than speculation.
